Tariki Counselling Service.

A Buddhist approach to therapy.

The Tariki Counselling Service originally formed during the height of the pandemic, when a group of mature counselling and psychotherapy students got together and started talking about the great need for therapy and healing as the world faced a mental health crisis. This issue felt so pressing, especially at a time when traditional channels of support were closing their doors.

As a group, we recognised the increased need for people to access therapy, while at the same time, we were wanting to gain practical experience of delivering therapy. Consequently, we created an online Buddhist Psychotherapy and Counselling agency in order to offer support to those who need it most and to gain experience as practitioners. This counselling service has gone from strength to strength, providing online counselling sessions to hundreds of people, and enabling all of the students involved to earn their respective therapy qualifications.

Now that all of the group members are fully qualified counsellors and/or psychotherapists, we have decided to continue operating as a collective of individual practitioners. Our unifying ethos is rooted in our Buddhist psychotherapy training: we seek to provide deeply compassionate talking therapy to clients looking for an open-minded exploration of what’s going on their lives. We believe that the trusted bond of the client-therapist relationship provides the conditions for clients to discover what they need, and for both the client and the therapist to collaborate, facilitating the healing process.

Despite Tariki’s Buddhist orientation, no matter what the clients’ spiritual practice, we offer a radically non-judgemental approach to all faiths and none. Even though all of the practitioners in this group have trained in Buddhist Psychotherapy at the Tariki Trust (a training course which we no longer run), we each have our own individual strengths, style, and ways of working. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more.

The Tariki Counselling Service offers 1:1, long-term therapy, from a Buddhist perspective, for anyone over the age of 18. The cost of therapy depends on the practitioner, please enquire here. Tariki works with clients experiencing a wide array of therapeutic needs. All issues are welcome.

If you are looking to begin therapy, or you want to have an informal chat to learn more, please get in touch by sending an email to claire@tarikitrust.org
