Join us on Retreat in Abbey Wood, Earlston: Tariki Trust’s Home in the Beautiful Scottish Borders

  • Buddha Nature – A Woodland Retreat

    31st July - 3rd August 2026

Type of Retreat: Wellbeing (not part of our ecotherapy training programme)

    Facilitators: Caroline Brazier, Stephen McCabe

The Buddha was born under a tree, and enlightened under a tree. He taught under trees in the forest, and died under two trees. And yet, the opportunity to connect with Buddha, Dharma and Sangha in wild spaces, beneath the soothing energy of trees, can sometimes feel rare. During this three-night wild camping retreat, we will meditate and share our favourite Buddhist teachings with each other. We will walk silently and mindfully in open green spaces. We will watch the river flow, contemplating our impermanence; we will meditate together, beneath the trees, just as the Buddha once did. Find out more and book a place on Eventbrite.

  • Ecotherapy, Folktales and Fairy Tales

    14th - 17th May 2027

Type of Retreat: Wellbeing (not part of Tariki Trust’s ecotherapy training programme, run by affiliates)

    Facilitators: Stephen McCabe, Hari Sams

Join Stephen McCabe and Harriet Sams in Abbey Wood for an enchanting weekend of fairy tales, myths, legends and nature-connection. Sitting around a camp fire, we will share stories of the forest and allow these tales to act as inspiration for our own deep connection with the woodlands where we will be camping.

  • Ecotherapy Training; wild camping and learning in Scotland

    28th - 31st May 2027

    Type of Retreat: Training

    Facilitators: Caroline Brazier, Stephen McCabe

Join Tariki Trust for three days of ecotherapy training in the woods. If you are interested in connecting others with Nature professionally, whether you are a counsellor, holistic therapist, artist or community worker, you are invited to join us for three nights of wild camping in Abbey Wood, our woodland retreat in the Scottish Borders.

During the long weekend (Friday evening to Monday morning) we will explore simple, powerful tools for connecting others with nature, such as guiding meditations and silent walks, offering group activities and working one-to-one. Everyone will be given a chance to try their own nature-connection activities with other participants. All methods are designed to support other people’s wellbeing and mental health.

You can secure a place on this retreat by paying a £50 deposit to Tariki Trust. Please email stephen@naturetherapyonline.net to receive an invoice and to secure your place. The outstanding balance will be payable a month before the retreat begins. Alternatively, you can book and pay in full via Eventbrite now.

a few quotes from our retreat attendess…

  • The retreat was facilitated beautifully by Stephen and Hari from the Tariki Trust. A space to be playful and silly, but also to reflect and connect deeper with ourselves in relation to nature. Abbey Wood is a special place.

Samantha (attendee of 2025 ecotherapy retreat)

  • A much needed retreat for the soul, it was slow-paced and mindful, which made it an ideal break from my busy life. It was an ecotherapy journey with mindfulness and gratitude. Tariki Trust at Abbey Wood is a safe, respectful and accepting environment, there’s also room for a laugh too.

Cara (attendee of 2025 ecotherapy retreat)

  • I really enjoyed the retreat amongst the trees. It made for a great weekend camping and connecting to nature. The facilitators were wonderful, and the facilities although simple provided little bits of comfort – I especially enjoyed my morning cup of coffee by the fire. I hope to be back at Abbey Woods and its gentle spirits very soon.

Aleks (attendee of 2025 ecotherapy retreat)

  • The retreat offered me a breath away from the daily commitments, refreshing my soul and rekindling my hope.
