Type of Retreat: Wellbeing (not part of Tariki Trust’s ecotherapy training programme, run by affiliates)

    Facilitators: Stephen McCabe, Hari Sams

During this long weekend we will gather around an open fire and delve deeply into one of Scotland’s most enchanting legends – Thomas The Rhymer. We will take the story to the trees, connecting with the beautiful Scottish Borders through the lens of its ancient lore. We will connect with Nature and the faeries, visiting key places where Thomas was said to have been, such as the River Leader, his tower home, and – according to legend – the very spot where he was taken away to Fairyland by the queen of the fae. Book a place on Eventbrite.

  • Buddha Nature – A Woodland Retreat

    31st July - 3rd August 2026

Type of Retreat: Wellbeing (not part of our ecotherapy training programme)

    Facilitators: Caroline Brazier, Stephen McCabe

The Buddha was born under a tree, and enlightened under a tree. He taught under trees in the forest, and died under two trees. And yet, the opportunity to connect with Buddha, Dharma and Sangha in wild spaces, beneath the soothing energy of trees, can sometimes feel rare. During this three-night wild camping retreat, we will meditate and share our favourite Buddhist teachings with each other. We will walk silently and mindfully in open green spaces. We will watch the river flow, contemplating our impermanence; we will meditate together, beneath the trees, just as the Buddha once did. Find out more and book a place on Eventbrite.

a few quotes from our retreat attendess…

  • The retreat was facilitated beautifully by Stephen and Hari from the Tariki Trust. A space to be playful and silly, but also to reflect and connect deeper with ourselves in relation to nature. Abbey Wood is a special place.

Samantha (attendee of 2025 ecotherapy retreat)

  • A much needed retreat for the soul, it was slow-paced and mindful, which made it an ideal break from my busy life. It was an ecotherapy journey with mindfulness and gratitude. Tariki Trust at Abbey Wood is a safe, respectful and accepting environment, there’s also room for a laugh too.

Cara (attendee of 2025 ecotherapy retreat)

  • I really enjoyed the retreat amongst the trees. It made for a great weekend camping and connecting to nature. The facilitators were wonderful, and the facilities although simple provided little bits of comfort – I especially enjoyed my morning cup of coffee by the fire. I hope to be back at Abbey Woods and its gentle spirits very soon.

Aleks (attendee of 2025 ecotherapy retreat)

  • The retreat offered me a breath away from the daily commitments, refreshing my soul and rekindling my hope.
